Thanks to everyone who came to the gig at Lolita last night.  It was great to fun to play some music out again.  If anybody has some pictures, let me know.

Songs for New Depression Review

Thanks to T Burns for the shout-out at his blog Rebellious Jukebox. Here’s a guy who really gets it, which is always nice. Check out his other posts for some musical horizon expansion.

Flameboard!

I was just reading the Aimee Man bulletin board, because, I don’t know, I just stumbled upon on it. I’m not a big Aimee Man fan… more of a casual fan. I think her music is pretty good, if given to a certain sameness. She’s a real solid songwriter.

Anyway, this message board… yikes. Those fans really say what they think, and they let you know if they feel they got cheated. They were going on about some show that had some theatrical elements that they said stunk. I know Barbra Streisand got slammed for her George Bush skit a while back, which sounded kind of painful, but hey, she took a risk.. that’s what artists do.

But you make a misstep and they whup up on you. And they’re not so nice.

That’s why I don’t have bulletin board. I don’t want to know. This whole connect with the audience thing is overrated. Anyway, I give my music away for free, so nobody has any basis for yelling at me about being cheated. And I never play a show that costs more than $5 to get in… maybe $7. So vote with your feet.

Once Again, A New Site

Every so often, I roll out a new site. Keeps me busy.

As you can see here, Amerkin.com has embraced the open source revolution, with music released under the Creative Commons license. I read an article about how Brazilian great Gilberto Gil has embraced this new copyright method and I thought it sounded cool because Gilberto Gil is cool. Creative Commons allows people to share the music freely, and even use it in their own mix as long as it’s not for commercial purposes. If I hear the strains of “Dark Nacht” in a Deep House Trance 9″ Remix, I intend to find out who’s making money from it and shave off my portion.

It’s only fair.
